This afternoon I had an appointment with Sarah, the personal shopper / fashion adviser at John Lewis. My wardrode desperately needed a make over, and I generally hate shopping so thought I'd give it a try.
Well, I can honestly say it's fantastic. It's a free service (Debenhams and Selfridges also offer a similar service), and you can go just for help with one outfit, or as in my case, when you need lots of things.
After a 10 min consultation to discuss type of clothes I was looking for, the colours and styles I like / dislike etc, she set off round the store with a rail to select things for me to try whilst I was left to relax with a coffee and some maazines. If you prefer you can go round the store at the same time to pick out things you'd like to try, but I thought that if I was there I'd be less open to trying styles I'd not normally go for so it'd best just to get her to pick stuff out.
She came back with the rail filled up, and then based on seeing how the things she'd chosen fitted and styles that suited me, she then went back with a second rail. Sarah was so friendly and helpful, and based on what I was trying would pop back into the store to get something in a different size or colour, or to get some beads to accessorize, or some shoes etc.
I have come away with so much stuff (although it's not obligatory to buy anything), and you even pay in her suite area so no queueing or having to mix with the 'common' shopper at all! Fab! And hopefully I won't need to go shopping again for months. Hurrah!
